On top of the tough lessons on global health resilience, the COVID-19 pandemic has also taught the world crucial lessons regarding supply chain resilience. There have been in recent years severe disruptions to global supply chains that have had serious impacts on companies and economies around the world. In this context, supply chain security increasingly is becoming viewed as a key element of national security. More and more, policy focus in Washington and Taipei is centering on the question of how the United States and Taiwan can strengthen coordination on supply chain resilience, both with each other and with other partners around the world.
On March 9, the Center for East Asia Policy Studies at the Brookings Institution will virtually host a group of experts to examine how the two partners can ramp up their efforts to strengthen supply chain security. After framing remarks by Brookings Vice President Suzanne Maloney, Taiwan Minister without Portfolio John Deng will hold a keynote conversation with Brookings Senior Fellow Ryan Hass. The second portion of the event will feature an expert panel discussion on Taiwan’s role in global supply chains and opportunities for the United States and Taiwan to strengthen coordination in this critical field.
